Art born from exile, carrying hope and memory.
Azad Mohammed
Photographer/ Poet
My name is Azad Mohammed, and I am a Rohingya photographer and poet. My journey with art began not in classrooms or studios, but in the refugee camps where I have suffered by seeing my people suffer. Surrounded by loss and uncertainty, I turn to photography and poetry as a way to preserve memory, to speak what could not be spoken, and to find beauty in my people where hope was fragile.
Now living in Kassel, Germany, I continue to create work that carries both my personal story and the collective history of my people. Each photograph I take and each poem I write is rooted in resilience, identity, and the longing for belonging.
Through my art, I wish to share more than just images or words- I wish to share voices often silenced, moments often unseen, and a hope that even in exile, stories can live, breathe, and be remembered.
Silence fuels suffering, the Rohingya needs global action now!
